My doctor already has phone consultations, you can book a phone appointment for after 11.30 am.

If you make a telephone appointment with my doctor it is triaged by a practice nurse and if you are acutely ill you will be seen that morning (though you can not choose your doctor).

I tend to book appointments online where there is a box to state the nature of the need for the appointment should you choose to reply.

Re: GP's charging?

I think there should be a small charge if people fail to turn up and don't bother to notify the practice they are unable to keep a appointment . My dentist and hairdresser do this already.

Taken from this months surgery newsletter...

MISSED APPOINTMENTS
In March the Patient Participation Group asked us
to undertake a comprehensive survey on missed
appointments.
The full report will go to the April meeting but the
shock findings were a total of 3549 minutes or 59.15
hours of clinical time wasted by people who did not
attend their booked appointment. Bearing in mind
the pressure on the system we need to introduce
policies to address this. The change in attendance
trend with the GP partners is particularly alarming,
which would have meant 81 extra appointments
would have been available in March

That sounds good Meg wonder why it's not nationwide ? National Health Service but each surgery does it's own thing ? that's why it costs so much I would guess.

Julie I think I belong to a very good progressive surgery . When I went online to book a prescription last night I noticed all my previous vaccinations are now listed along with any allergies I may have and recent medication.

There are some things that need a visit to the doctor but follow ups and test results can easily be dealt with on the telephone.

Re: GP's charging?

That does sound good as I say we have new GPs so they are trying to make ours better sadly though some people seem rather resistant to change.

I'd do it to some buggers for £50, never mind £150!
