Bookmarks

I have just read a short article from a second-hand bookshop about the strange things they find that people have used as bookmarks.
Apparently pressed flowers are common, but they have found babies teeth, a marriage certificate and even a rasher of bacon!!

What do you tend to use most as a bookmark?

Re: Bookmarks

I'm a literary heathen, I simply leave the book face down... and I know I am going to hell for that

Re: Bookmarks

Old birthday and Christmas cards cut into strips most of the time..

It was nice to open a book belonging to my late father and find a book mark I gave him about 40 years ago...

Re: Bookmarks

Years ago I found a horrible photograph in a library book which I guess may have been used as a bookmark
It showed a lot of people who had been hanged in some eastern country.

I have a draw full of bookmarks received as gifts over the years. Some are hand made from leather and fabric.
I don't really have time for books these days with a number of forums to keep an eye on so don't often need a bookmark.

Re: Bookmarks

Used a tea bag once it was the only dry thing we could find on a very wet campsite in Wales normally I have a metal one with a rabbit on the end Jordan made at school. But these days I use the kindle or my phone to read books on so no book mark needed.

Re: Bookmarks

I have to admit I am guilty of the worst sin in the book lovers catalogue of what not to do, I tuck down the page corners…Yeeeaghhhhh! Hang the Barbarian!
Although I do straighten them out again when I’m finished the book, anyway they’re my books.

Aah, that's really nice Cass. I'd have been well pleased If I'd found that.

I'm a bit like you but tend to use empty packets cut up in strips eg. tea bag boxes or cereal boxes, though I have just been given a lovely 'proper' bookmark with a butterfly on the top.

Re: Bookmarks

We're both avid readers and we collect souvenir leather bookmarks when we go somewhere different where they sell them. It's nice to remember where you bought each one.
