We have what they call a Surge Tower which is a multi plug tower
of 10 sockets and that stops the surge if the electric comes back
to get you
Think it costs about £30 and it takes 10 plugs.
Never had any problem with it.
Think they are cheaper now as we have had ours for years.
There is a 4 plug one which is about £8 from Wilkinsons.

By the way, forgive me if I haven't been paying attention here, but I didn't think that a Surge Protector was the same as an RCD. Is it?

No ma'am, they are two different items. You can't substitute one with the other.
