Re: Good morning Tuesday

Good morning fellow members a strange morning here damp with a yellow sky and distant thunder.

No chance of getting in the garden today it's too wet so I will do some cleaning instead.

Enjoy your day everyone

PLANTMAN

Knifemaking is not so common in Britain, but it does have a reasonable following. Some people grind & forge their own blades, but you have to be pretty keen to do that. Most people, including myself, buy in ready made blades then fit their own handles & sheaths

A lot of people have a workshop with power tools & sanders, but I use hand tools in my spare room

It is a big hobby in Scandinavia. This is a Finnish supplier of blades & materials, work your way down the menu on the left of the home page www.brisa.fi to see what's available

On britishblades look at the Custom, Scandinavian, and Members Projects forums

The two main types of blade are full tang, where the handle part of the blade (the tang) fills the full profile and you fix the handle pieces (the scales) either side of the tang; and narrow tang where the tang tapers to more like a rod, and you thread wood, metal etc onto it like beads on a string

I'm making my friend a fulltang blade with medium/pale wood handles, aluminium fittings, and undyed leather sheath; just oiled so it is a sort of buff or dull yellow colour
The wood is Brazilian Rosewood that I acquired as a bulk purchase, but I'm trying generally to use British or more sustainable wood

Just put 'knife making' into YouTube's search box.

Re: Good morning Tuesday

good morning all,
It's wet one today.
I'm fetching my young grandson from school this afternoon. This morning I must nip to town for a few things and make some soup, so had better get on.
Have a good day all.

Re: Good morning Tuesday

Good morning everyone.
As Barry mentioned the rain went on for about 36 hours in the
Midlands. Glad to see a little gleam of light at last.
Had lounge light on all day again. No saving electricity
with this Summers weather.
Take care everyone and have a nice day.

Re: Good morning Tuesday

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

The Rainy Day

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Thanks Henry that about sums it up.
