Who polices the police?
Good question! Each of the police areas has, so I understand, a section dealing with complaints against the police. The problem being though that section consists of, yes you've probably guessed – other police! Supposedly impartial / unbiased but … ?

I wish people would not tar every police officer with the same brush.
My grandson, is a police officer and l can’t imagine him committing any dreadful crimes.

Maybe, he might have been better to have become a traffic warden, they are getting less flak these days!!

An update on the subject of this thread:

"A police officer who was convicted of drunkenly assaulting a woman while she walked home alone has resigned from his job.

"He was sentenced to a 14-week curfew last Friday and ordered to pay £500 compensation, a victim surcharge and court costs - but avoided jail.

Banfield was suspended by West Midlands Police pending a gross misconduct hearing, but on Tuesday decided to hand in his resignation to the force."

Presumably this won't affect whether the CPS decides on whether to prosecute or not.

CPS need to be calibrated whereby they concentrate on prosecution being based not on cost of each case and probability of success as a metric of efficiency but to leave decisions of guilt on juries. Right now the CPS as I first stage of the justice process. This is wrong.

As for what's wrong with the police - much more a case of what's wrong with so many of the public.

Re: What is going wrong with some police lately?

Another perspective from me , I can only tell of one lovely young man who's life plan at 18 was to become a police officer . I've known him since the age of 14. He joined up and loved the job and over the years has been promoted. He is now married with a lovely wife and 2 great kids . Our town has many problems county lines drugs , etc the usual and the police here like many are struggling to manage due to monetary cuts

Last week half a dozen were given their jabs 4 of the group had unpleasant side effects and had a couple of days off leaving only a few on duty , my friends son and others working 12 hour shifts days and nights . He told his mum hes exhausted and saddened at the lack of support for him and his colleagues. Recently arresting a thug they were spat at and guess what , they were all tested positive , so now isolating and he is sleeping in the family camper van to keep his family safe .

He is a good decent man who maybe wonders why he became a policeman at times . His mum distraught and his lovely kids all worry about him . His mum said he cant wait to retire and that's quite a few years away .

You, Ted, and Susan speak wise words.

Right up to the grocery store shooting in Boulder, Colorado this week, extremely liberal Boulder was one of the most vociferous cities bellyaching about police and wanting them defunded.

The incredibly sad irony is that the police were the first called and the first on the scene. One officer lost his life in the shooting.

I am all about swift and severe punishment for law enforcement officers who go rogue, but I've about had it with the criticisms of police in general.
