‘Look’.....

Why lately, do (mostly) politicians start their answer to a question with the word, ‘Look’?.... ‘Look’ at what?
Is it the new in-word they’ve been taught at, ‘How To Speak Like A Politician’ classes?!!

What do you think they mean? Please put your thoughts ‘on the table’!

I always think that starting their answers with "Look" usually means they are about to try to convince you of something rather than give a direct answer.

I think it means "look at me, pay attention - I'm about to say something terribly important"

Politicians and officials are given regular lessons and instructions on how to speak on TV or radio.

It is all part of the PC, Media focused , system with highly paid press and media officers instructing them how to get across the message to the ordinary person.

Look is apparently the new in word..

I have noticed answering yes or no to a question is avoid and a speech ensues preceded by the word..'So'.

"So" seems to precede so many replies nowadays .....

..... and not just politicians but "civilians", too .....

Is it (and "Look") a mechanism to give "pause for thought" .....

Do not pay much attention to politicians, will look and listen next time, find out who are the worst culprits.

Could imply that the speaker believes they “know better” than the questioner.

I think they're really saying "Luck".

i.e. "if you're lucky we might make this happen!"

"if you're lucky. we might do this in 5 years time....!

Politicians live in a bubble, so when a new word or phrase appears, they think that is the norm and even a bit cool. Remember 'Top down politics' and 'Blue sky thinking.'

I have a collective noun for the lot of 'em but this is a family show.
