Re: Curiosity

Also moths are nearly always seen at night, fluttering around a light. Perhaps people feel more vulnerable at night.

Re: Curiosity

When I was at primary school, our teacher got us to collect caterpillars from gardens so that we could put them in a glass tank and watch their progress in class. Some turned into butterflies, some turned into moths but it taught us not the fear these lovely creatures.

However, I do remember us kids spotting a very large Hawk Moth. We thought it might have been one of those 'dangerous' types that we had seen on the news so we caught it, put it in a jar and took it to the local police station, where the Sergeant 'dealt with it' - hopefully he let it go.

Yes, I'm convinced it is - my daughter also has this fear, learned from me. I was discussing this with her last night and she said that butterflies often settle with their wings wide open, showing all their beauty in the daylight, giving the sense of an open hearted and friendly creature.

Moths, on the other hand, flutter about in the dark of night and settle with their wings half closed as if they have something to hide, suggesting something secretive and sinister. I think she may have something there.

If you go down to Willow Farm
To look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise
Everyone lies like the fox on the rocks

Re: Curiosity

Moths are misunderstood by many, some of them are really beautiful and equal to any butterfly ...
I often see a number of these in the local nature reserve
