EU proposes ending daylight saving

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-45366390

I would prefer the clocks to be the same all the year round, but I doubt this would be popular with people much further north than us.

If it's summer-time all year round then that suits me - I'm a later riser and, in winter-time, I barely see daylight .....

Re: EU proposes ending daylight saving

I really cannot understand why this ridiculous situation persists.

Daylight saving time was first put in place with the idea of saving energy (and in America 250 years ago to save candles!).

These days, however, I cannot see any real advantage in continuing to pursue this idea. So many people work flexi-hours, there are many effective street lights, rush hours extend over far many more hours than they once did, and I fail to understand the need to continue to change our clocks twice a year.

Re: EU proposes ending daylight saving

It's a bit of a misnomer. The amount of daylight in any one day is the same whatever the clock reads..

I think part of the reason for continuing with the clocks going backwards and forwards is to do with kids going to school/coming home from school in the dark.

So we would become GMT +1
Which would seem odd as Greenwich is in the UK!

Whatever way you want to look at it, we have (and always will have) shorter days in the winter. There's nothing anyone can do about that.
