Lard, I believe, is saturated fat, which is the relatively bad sort of fat. We do need a small amount of saturated fat in our diet, which can be got from eating meat, butter, etc., but it is probably better not to use saturated fat too much in things like frying, etc.
Shame it make things so tasty.
Chips cooked in lard when I was a child were so much tastier than chips cooked in oli, as were roast potatoes done round the joint.
Nowadays, the only lard I'm aware of is the stuff under my skin.
