The BBC red button service was due to end today (except for certain sports and concert coverage) but has been extended after protests from the public. The removal of the service was to be part of the BBC's cost cutting plan.
I take it that not many of you use the red button then? I sometimes use it to see the news headlines when they are babbling on, on TV. Also, sometimes for Wimbledon matches.

On my remote(s), the red button does the same as the Text button, so were they aiming to do away with all Teletext Services?
I thought it was the text service that was going? I sometimes use it.
This is odd ... I don't understand it.
The news comes days after a petition, organised by the National Federation of the Blind of the UK (NFBUK), was handed in to the BBC and Downing Street.
You're splitting hairs ... it's still there but they just don't call it teletext any more ... since going digital.
On some progs I see a red dot top right, that's for something else. I've never tried it.
It's sort of the same as teletext in that it has news headlines, sport, lottery results etc but during certain tournaments, you can choose which match you watch.
Speaking of the old teletext, does anyone remember playing Bamboozle? I remember thinking it was sooooo clever at the time.
