Generally I would agree with that, working hard for what you want in life is how I was brought up. Although many people might believe the world is made up of couples but that's not always the case. That fact, if it applies, makes it far more difficult for one person trying to save such a large deposit.

Same here, a recognised seven-year trade apprenticeship from the age of 15 gave me a 55-year working life with good pay and just part of that time out of work, that was only due to the economic downturn (recession) in the late 1990s.

Re: house prices jump

Coincidentally this item on the link below was on the ITV News, it is interesting to see where the largest house price increases have been:

That can't be right. Every site would surely say the same because those figures are based on actual sale prices rather than the current value which you relied on which is an estimate.

I looked at Zoopla because it was the site you quoted and it said 134% increase from 2000 to 2014 and 23% for the three years before that (1997 to 2000). Zoopla says those values were the sale prices registered at HM Land Registry.

Isn't that the way it works? perhaps I am missing something?

Re: house prices jump

Don't know about other parts of the country but since we bought this house in 2014 according to Zoopla it has gone up by £235,000
How on earth ar those wanting to get onto the housing ladder ever going to do it?

Re: house prices jump

They have to wait until their parents ( if they own their own home ) die and hopefully pop their clogs at home and not after three years in a care home ( will wipe out your house ) and if they don’t have too many siblings will have enough for a deposit .

Have you thought of selling it, and buying one you can afford?

Why don't you post a daily update on its value, RS?

I begrudge you none of your vast wealth, nor immense talent, RS, but balancing them out with a bit of modesty would increase your stature even more, don't you think?

And let us not forget: Pride comes before a fall.
