You are right Art, but I believe that this is just another way to stop people contacting the Surgery in the hope they will find other ways to get help, like a pharmacist!
Most of the world envy our great NHS Service, but this pandemic has cost a fortune so, despite all government speeches that tell us we are going to get more doctors & nurses, what they didn't tell us is that it won't be readily available to all.
Patience is a virtue, they say, but I believe that too much patience may well allow the illness to get worse, and what hope is there of getting an ambulance , when more people need them?

I can't help but wonder how many of our Politicians actually use the NHS services.

As distinct from going Private!

If they aren't using it, how can they manage the way it works?

I have to confess that I was given Free Private health care (The Company did it for everybody) for 30 years.

Hardly touched the NHS, as you just needed to get forwarded to the right Private service.

Re: Let’s not bash the doctors

Ted, I had two private appointments recently as I was poorly and my GP was so slow at doing a referral.

I found it like a new world. The difference in the treatment I received privately was nothing like an NHS appointment.

The most noticeable thing for a start was I was seen (in person) in just less than a week, instead of months and months of waiting - only to get a phone call!

Perhaps if we cough up enough the doctors don't get covid from doing face-to-face appts.

Re: Let’s not bash the doctors

I am waiting to see a consultant about my insulin again, and I am sure that will be a phone appointment.

Perhaps I will ask him if it would be possible to do a face to face appointment, if I go private! If he says "Yes" I will ask him what the problem is because I have been tested for Covid & had both vaccinations

Try it, Twink, be interesting to know what he says.
You might be lucky as it seems private docs can't get covid from patients.

When I had the first private appointment. I asked him how long was it for ( knowing NHS only gave us 10 mins if you're lucky)!
His reply was . . . "As long as you want."
Different world isn't it!

My old Dad used to say 'Money talks' and very often he was right.

Re: Let’s not bash the doctors

How do you go about getting a private appointment?

Do you just ask your doctor? Do they ever refuse to refer you?

The reason I ask is because I'm suffering from trochanteric bursitis on my right side. (hip bursitis) I had it on the other side 4 years ago & was lucky to get a MRI scan to diagnose it.

It went eventually but now I've got it on the other side. Last time, I went through a lot of bother - physio, specialists etc before I eventually got a MRI scan and I'm thinking if I ask the doctor for one this time they will make an excuse not to send me.

If they refuse I intend asking them to refer me privately for a scan. I need to know that it is bursitis & not something else...

Re: Let’s not bash the doctors

Carol, I have no idea whereabouts you are in Derbyshire, but this might give you an idea, or otherwise search for a private hospital nearer to you.

https://www.nuffieldhealth.com/hospitals/derby#services

All I did was look for my local private hospital, search for specialists dealing with my type of problem, then phoned up and asked for an appointment.
Easy peezy if you're paying!

Re: Let’s not bash the doctors

Thanks Mups.

Yes it's no problem getting there. I live about 12 miles from Derby.

I will try private referral from the doctor first and see how I get on..

Have they no faith in the vaccinations they are dishing out?
Have they no protective clothing?

Dentists are working and their erxaminations and procedures are more likely to leave them exposed to the virus than a doctor sitting 2 mtrs away from us!
It's a damn good job the hospital doctors aren't refusing to see people too!

People are being mis-diagnosed, or even dying because they can't access care. This is not acceptable.
As I said in another thread, the doctors are being dictated to by NHS England, but surely if they all got together and insisted these telephone calls are causing so many problems and health concerns for patients, maybe rules would change, but how do you know the GP's don't actually prefer it this way now?
I agree.

I've recently been to the dentist twice for a crown, and this required quite a lot of drilling and filling. She was pretty much face to face with me for about an hour (no sarcastic comments please!).

No problem.

If all medical staff have, as I expect, been given two vaccinations, surely they will be protected against the worst of infections and if patients are subject to a simple quick temperature check prior to admission, it should be perfectly safe.
