Dodgy Mower Assembly

Last year I bought a new Victa Mower from Bunnings - a rotary mower - It did what it was supposed to until about a month ago when I clipped a concrete edge and it started to vibrate (wasn't unusable but shook like buggery)

Thought I had probably damaged/bent a blade so bought a new pair at the local mower place, finally got round to changing them today (the grass has virtually stopped growing)

I discovered that the mower blade mount had been assembled incorrectly, a small plate used as a washer/retainer had been put on the wrong side of the blade holder where it was mounted. This meant that the shaft was not fitted properly into the hole for it and striking the concrete had allowed it to move off centre hence the vibration.

Easily fixed so now the mower with new blades is back working as it should. I also discovered that the original blades had been over tightened or not fitted properly so they were unable to swing out of the way and return if they hit anything (such as the concrete that they did hit).

You have to wonder how this mistake was made, I presume it was made at the factory and wonder how many mowers were affected? Not something I have come across before and a bit disappointing in such a major brand that QC was so lacking. I suppose i could have checked it better before first use but not something you expect to find.

Anyway I am off to give the grass its final cut until next spring (I hope)
