Nobody takes her seriously.
Brussels would be in turn allowed to break aspects of the deal, either suspending obligations under the withdrawal agreement, or "by imposing tariffs on imports of goods from the UK".
This wouldn't be unprecedented: the Commission took similar action against Donald Trump, slapping billions in tariffs on iconic American goods like Bourbon Whiskey, blue jeans, and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Yes but there was no trade agreement between the EU and the USA.

Oh dear Solasch
The existence of a trade deal (= absence of tariffs) makes such sanctions even more effective, because hurting. Oh dear, bread!

Heh, you got caught out again and now you're squirming.

Back on-topic and read this (if you can) for an explanation of why Scots still won't seek independence any time soon.
(Partly of course because it would lead to huge problems for Spain, France, Italy and others but hey!)

"People in Scotland benefit from a 'union dividend' of more than £2,500, almost 30 times higher than the average English resident, research by an influential think tank has found.

The Institute for Government (IfG) found that in 2018/19, the most recent year for which full UK-wide figures are available, Scotland ran a deficit of more than seven per cent while England’s was just 0.3 per cent."

Do you think the EU will foot the bill to keep Scots in the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed when they're already squabbling about funding?

Re: Rejoice and rejoin

Not all of Scotland wants to rejoin the EU, Nicola would have a hell of a fight on her hands if she thought she could just take us back.
Just saying.

Glad to hear it Rox. I personally would hate to lose Scotland to the EU.

^^^ what ???

Trade deals don't necessarily mean absence of tarrifs they are a contract between the countries on how trade in general including standards, policies etc are agreed.

Sanctions as far as USA and EU are concerned would be applied through the WTO by vote of all the WTO members.

There is a majority for it, it seems. So your minority would be torn out, together with that majority. Brexit functioned perfectly well on that principle. 😦

There is not a majority for leaving the UK.
