Re: Royal Mail Shares.

Question is Alan can you get hold of any? There's quite a furore at the moment regarding share rationing and the reduction of the allocation of available shares to us plebs in favour of huge institutions......

I'm not too sure about them, was it British Rail or the Water Company that got sold off and us 'plebs' were allowed to buy and then they went rock bottom in price and the big companies bought them for a piddling amount

Re: Royal Mail Shares.

When the Thatcher government were selling off the country's assets I bought every share on offer and immediately sold them (not terrific amounts of money mind) and I turned £2000 into £3000 in the process.

Won't touch 'em, in principle as I never bought any other shares when Thatcher (phth, phth, phth) sold off the rest of the nationalised industries

With luck at some point in the future a truly 'Socialist' Government should re-nationalise all those industries, but this time WITHOUT compensation!!!

Maybe they did Barry - but then I'm not a member of the Labour Party - too right wing for my taste - I want, as I said in my earlier contribution, a truly Socialist Government. The present and recent past Labour Party and Governments have never been committed to a 'Socialist' programme.

As someone who lives right out in the countryside where the daily postal delivery arrives at 2pm on a good day, I can't help but feel for people like me privatisation will sound the death knell for a daily postal service and an exorbitant rise in the cost of postage .

We live on the edge of town Meg and we never get a morning delivery either, and it's as late as 5pm some days..
