I've searched for "duplex identity" but not found any links except for calling cards - have I missed something ......

Some call it two step authentication.

For example, Google offer this:-

https://www.google.com/landing/2step/#tab=how-it-works

Some sites offer it when you go in to buy something.

Re: Very Nasty Scams!

I cover up any of my computer webcams/cameras. A sticking plaster does the job.

Re: Very Nasty Scams!

It might be worth noting where Scams and Malware are going in these modern times.

For a while we have thought that we won't catch anything if we don't open any attachments, or any known risky software/locations.

It's no longer true!

Those wishing to see the frightening stuff might like to look at the Malwarebytes web page which is here:-

https://blog.malwarebytes.com/101/20...longer-enough/

Like many, on here, I'm a fan of malwarebytes and run it in parallel with my main antivirus software.

If you like frightening stuff, and are also a user of on-line banking, you might like to look at web sites, like Sophos, which explain how the baddies are looking at you for their income.

And of course, put a sticker over the webcam on your laptop. It CAN be used by various websites without you knowing. If you have Adobe Flash installed (and most do) then the settings for it by default give permission to 3rd party sites to use your webcam. Change those settings imo but the fail safe is just to put a sticker over the webcam.
You might like to look at the Sophos web page to see that some security fixes may no longer be enough.

OK, Companies like Sophos, are in business to sell their antivirus stuff so they might lay it on a bit thicker, but you might note the way the scams are moving and protect yourself accordingly.

Re: Very Nasty Scams!

I bought a W10 laptop over a year ago, don't use it for banking or buying stuff, but use it for everything else for hours everyday. I've never used any AV other than the built-in Windows Defender. No problems at all.

My desktop machine, by comparison, is slow, with Avira and Malwarebytes running.
