Cider With Rosie (Laurie Lee)

Lots of stressful situations here at present and this is a lovely calming book... ( that's my calm smile!)

The Kingdom by the Sea by Paul Theroux

He walked/bused and trained around the entire coastline of England Scotland and Ireland in the 80's. An amazing portrayal of coastal and general social life in the 80's before the channel was even completed. Must have felt safe then??

Re: What book are you reading now?

I'm reading 'Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025? '
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Suicide-Sup.../dp/0312579977

Very worrying though thought provoking book. Not entirely in agreement with the premise or findings which is kinda reassuring.

It seems to me the more you learn about world events the more you have to consider the wider implications - the secret handshakes - the money men. Can you really get at the truth or do you end up joining the conspiracy theorists through lack of info? I reckon you end up merely wondering and silent, rendering all your reading of no-worth to anyone bar yourself as in at least you have come to a conclusion - there are other more important aspects of life to consider maybe ? At least you had a go.

Re: What book are you reading now?

I've started "Lord Foul's Bane" again after a couple of decades because I've read all my library books and the library is shut today!
It's the first of the "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" by Stephen Donaldson. I bought nearly the whole set at The Book Barn for a pound each!
Weird how it seems like yesterday when you reread some books after several years.

Have just started Stephen Kings "Firestarter"...just catching up on his older stories that ive missed....

From the author of THE SHINING, CARRIE and THE DEAD ZONE, this is Stephen King's most mesmerizing and menacing novel yet...It is the story of a sinister government agency, a fateful drug experiment, and a pigtailed girl named Charlie, who has an unimaginably terrifying gift.
