Made the mistake off checking why the sprinkler was not oscillating without turning the water off.

Hopefully you won't need them spitty. Might need to brush a bit of topsoil over any gaps in September, but the roots will easily mesh their way through.

Don't think it's necessary in all honesty. Leave it until early to mid September to see if you get any dead patches on the turf (unlikely, but you never know), then brush some topsoil into any gaps if needs be as said before, possible adding some seeds to the soil you use beforehand instead of sprinking by hand. September sewing of seed still allows enough time for germination before colder winter months.

Google for hints and tips of lawn maintenance.

Edit - like you, I bought some spare seeds at the time. Never used any of it whatsoever and ended up giving them to a friend who had a small area he wanted to make into a lawn.
