Re: Psoriasis

Graham - there is a Psoriasis Association, other sufferers may be of help there. Also I am informed that the condition needs the sun, also that Eucerin cream - used all over is very beneficial....

Re: Psoriasis

Hi Graham my son has Psoriasis , I expect you already know stress can make it worse.

He has tried all kinds of things , the usual steroid creams and lotions and special plasters none of which helped.

He has been using some kind of coal tar preparation from the doctor recently and the plaques are so much better, some have gone altogether . I think it is trial and error finding what suits each person isn't it.

Re: Psoriasis

My husband has this these days though it is much better, key to his was (completely against what is generally recommended) no sunlight on it at all. Sun seems to make his worse.

Moisturise moisturise moisturise, with oilatum oil, bath wash, soap and cream. Cannot moisturise too much.

And once a week use a large dollop of relaxation in the form of meditation, lowers his blood pressure too.

Absolutely true Julie - my first warning that something was amiss was my skin's reaction to the sun and I actually started to feel an aversion to sunlight then, psoriasis developed on my arms, legs and scalp and it's always made worse by stress. I don't have it really badly but on my scalp I am given Betnovate Scalp Application which does help but the key is washing my hair everyday with a 2in1 shampoo and to avoid putting conditioner on it at all costs as it clogs on the scalp. The cream given for my arms and legs when I get a bout of it is Dovobet. This was given to me on private prescription (NHS didn't even tell me it was available) as it costs around £50 per tube but it is very very good stuff - the NHS might prescribe it, it depends on how sympathetic your GP is.

My wife was told she needed light treatment, One session and it was worse, she had already told the specialist that sun made it worse. Im sure some of these people have Tunnel vision, and dont listen either.

They absolutely don't listen - they have a fixed set of ideas and they won't deviate. When I finally had to go private to get something done, the specialist took about 6 seconds to tell me what it was. He said 'Don't tell me - they told you it can't be psoriasis because it itches and the sunlight doesn't help it' - I told him he was correct. My Dad and brother had it too so it wasn't as though I didn't recognise it when I saw it but the NHS doctors just wouldn't be told. The specialist looked a bit disappointed - I think he must have thought he was about to witness some rare skin event!
