If your zester is crap just use your cheese grater but make sure to cook it a little to make more tender to chew on......Also make sure you buy waxed free lemons as the stuff they use to wax is not a nice chemical ....
Actually I did use a cheese grater but it was a bit big hence the need to chop it with a knife.
