Ever done anything silly when under stress?

This brings to mind my few hours at the hospital the other week for my op.
They started rushing me around about 9am having been there since 7.30am.
No sleep, no food since the day before etc.
Seemingly two operations had been cancelled so being third in the queue
they were waiting for me. So by half past nine and all the needles and
whatever they do I had to get my silly hospital nightie on. You know the ones.
My head was going somewhere else by then and the nurse handed me a blue thing
which felt strange material. Not wanting to look stupid I said
"Oh is this one of those hats to cover my head in the operating Theatre. "
She said "No, they are your paper knickers"
Oooppsss!!!!!
Say no more, it still makes me laugh really badly.

Love that !
The senior nurse told me to remove me knickers, I says no !
I wont ! She says - you have to, for your op - I says WHY ?
She goes on - 'Well OK then' says I.
She walks off and I slip them back on

Mine's a hospital story too.
I was there for an MRI, and was asked to lie down on the patient table part of the machine before they raised it.
I'd had an ativan about 1/2 hour prior to having the scan as I have crappy vision, and get freaked out not seeing anything around me.
Well, I went to lie on the table, but completely missed it, and landed flat on my back. After a few seconds lying there stunned, I burst out laughing, and couldn't stop!
I felt like such a twit!

Re: Ever done anything silly when under stress?

I think one of the silliest things I have done was to call out the service engineer to my washing machine, which flatly refused to work. The service engineer arrived, looked at the machine and said "have you tried plugging it in" ! Somebody, and I never did find out who, had unplugged it. The socket and plug for the machine were behind it out of sight and the thought it had been unplugged never entered my head. I really did feel such an idiot.

Re: Ever done anything silly when under stress?

I was asked to look after things for a couple of hours in an electrical retailer's shop when I was 17 and someone came in to buy light bulbs.

I got them from the display and put them in a bag for the customer but he said "Can you test them please?"

He pointed out a light socket screwed to the wall, which I hadn't realised was there for that very purpose and I said "Oh, sorry, you mean in that?", intending to just point at it but two of my fingers actually hit the terminals!

I got a belt of electricity, my hair went up like a dandelion clock and all the lights in the shop went out, plunging the place into darkness!

The customer said "Don't worry, I'll find my way out but if there's a problem I'll return" and left me to try to work out where the fusebox was! stevmk2
