Extreme phobias, extreme cures

God this is terrifying! A group of people scared of heights are now atop the Olympic red tower thingy, to test their fears.

I'm in the safety of my armchair and it's scary!!

One bloke fainted, one woman was in tears.

I'm shouting out, yes I would be too!

I'm not sure Mups. It's finished now.

Was probably somewhere on Sky.

Oh. Ta. I haven't got Sky so wouldn't have been able to watch it anyway.

I think this is the technique known as flooding.. Its also used by some animal trainers..

It has a chance of curing the fear or compounding it.

British Airways used to run courses and flights for those who were terrified of flying.

But it'd be optional, wouldn't it?

They couldn't force anyone to go up there.

Re: Extreme phobias, extreme cures

I remember the fear of flying courses.

These people were asked to go to the top of the Olympic Park tower to unfurl banners reading out 'will you marry me, Maddie?' Problem is, they had to outside to the maintenance platform. Eeeeeeek. No wonder one chap fainted.

The paramedics wouldn't let him go out, even though he said he'd now found the confidence to. They weren't willing to risk it, even though everyone was connected to each other by harnesses on a line.

The young couple the banners were meant for were on their way by chopper. Good job Maddie said yes.
