South African Covid

What's all this then? This all we need!

Just heard on the lunchtime news about some new cases found of this type of Covid.
They said it is unrelated to travel.

Some areas are getting door-to-door testing carried out.

I think some of us older ones may never taste freedom again

How could so many people catch this if they were observing the rules and keeping their distance.

Re: South African Covid

Unrelated to travel means that it's already spreading within the community. So...they banned flights too late. IMO this is the tip of the iceberg

Re: South African Covid

I've been trying to work out why there are so many British travellers in Dubai. I mean there's simply no justification for so much continued travel. People keep finding excuses : https://www.arabnews.com/node/1800561/middle-east

Re: South African Covid

So how many variants on THE virus are there? There was one found in Kent or somewhere down there a couple of months ago. Wasn't that said to be S. African? Is this a second variant of what's known as the Chinese virus?

Re: South African Covid

So, the South African variant namely, 501Y.V2 was spread overseas by travellers. There’s only one variant that I know of at the moment in SA.

It’s spreading in SA because people in the townships do not observe social distancing.

The 501Y.V2 variant is more contagious and spreads easier.

There’s SA, Brazil and the UK variants that I am aware of.

They're the ones I have heard of so far too.

There is a Yorkshire strain too, it makes your arms shrink so you can't reach in to your pocket...And John Smiths Bitter is the vaccine but somebody else will have to pay for it....

Re: South African Covid

Annie, you are so right, closed borders..banned flights..too late...and Meg, I agree with you, we.re the ones being told to stay in, while they let plane loads into this country, it seems a long time since we were told all flights in and out were stopped....but it still goes on..
