Contacts of 16,000 positive tests not traced in time

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54412581

A technical glitch that meant nearly 16,000 cases of coronavirus went unreported has delayed efforts to trace contacts of people who tested positive.

Public Health England said all those who tested positive had been informed. But it means others in close contact with them were not.

Experts advise that ideally contacts should be tracked down within 48 hours.

The issue has been resolved, PHE said, with outstanding cases passed on to tracers by 01:00 BST on Saturday.
Not exactly T, T & T's fault, then, but another part of the same system .....

But why did no-one in the "system" wonder why, after several days of cases increasing, the numbers suddenly "plateau'd" at 7,000 .....

England's Test and Trace reaches lowest percentage of contacts since launch

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-54460270

The latest figures from the Test and Trace service in England show that the close contacts of 68.6% of people who tested positive for Covid-19 were reached in the week ending 30 September.

That is down from 72.5% the previous week and is the lowest weekly percentage since Test and Trace began in May. It comes as the service faced its largest ever number of positive tests with 51,475 confirmed cases, a 56% increase on the previous week.

In cases handled by local health protection teams, 97.1% of contacts were reached and asked to self-isolate. But when cases were handled online or by call centres, only 62.4% of close contacts were reached and asked to self-isolate.

Once we get our vaccinations containing nano chips in, we'll be traceable anywhere!

Just so. Then why is it a problem for Boris and co if an independent contractor has buggered things up? Of course, in the real world, if a contractor makes big mistakes like this they're taken off the job asap and replaced by someone more competent.

Dido "Incompetent" Harding seems to be doing a Pritti "Useless" Patel - at the height of a crisis, cases going up, contacts coming down, she's made no public appearances for 3 weeks .....

Coronavirus testing lab 'chaotic and dangerous', scientist claims

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54552620

Dr Julian Harris started working in laboratories dealing with highly infectious diseases in the 1980s. While processing coronavirus swab samples at the (private sector) Lighthouse lab in Milton Keynes he witnessed working practices which were "chaotic and dangerous".

Within a week of working at the Milton Keynes facility - which processes up to 30,000 tests a day - in early July, he was so troubled by what he saw he contacted the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). He reported overcrowded biosecure workspaces, poor safety protocols and a lack of suitable PPE. The Health and Safety Executive found five material breaches of health and safety legislation.
Another shambles to lie at Dido's door - I doubt that she's in the office, though - she'll be at the stables or the racecourse ..... wearing her silks .....
