Re: Modern day humour

I've got a foot in both camps - I love Hancock and Howard, but couldn't stand Tommy Cooper or Benny Hill. To me they were as funny as a Sulphuric Acid enema. I also loved "clever" humour - Bob Newhart was a real favourite of mine.

Re: Modern day humour

I loved American humour because it was observant humour - Bill Cosby - a master, also Kelly Monteith ......
Hancock had this ability too

Re: Modern day humour

I tend to enjoy sarcastic and sometimes crude humor, but I LOVE Absolutely Fabulous and The Young Ones. This is from one of my favorite episodes.

Though I am American; I adore British comedy. Shows that come to mind are: Keeping Up Appearances, Waiting for God, and Are You Being Served.

Re: Modern day humour

I think 'Dad's Army' has stood the test of time, I think it is still funny. I used to enjoy Hancock, but nowadays can't for the life of me see why I found it humorous. Most modern comedy doesn't do it for me at all, but I do enjoy 'Citizen Khan', which has me laughing out loud.

I find myself agreeing with that.

There was something that struck me the other day. I found some clips from "Wheeltappers and Shunters." If the same scripts were used today, they would without question be banned. But why is the foul language used by modern comedians allowed when its far worse?
