Yorkshire gains the Tour de France 2014

A very happy Yorkshire lass here. Leeds has gained recognition as being only the second city in England
to have the Tour de France cycling start of the race.
I cant wait for the 5th July 2014 when I go back up to
Leeds, Yorkshire and watch the start. Have always wanted to go to France to see the Tour and just missed out this year on seeing it go not far from my sons house.
Hope other fans are happy we will be getting some publicity and its great for Yorkshire as it will draw people from all
over the World maybe for holidays there.

Re: Yorkshire gains the Tour de France 2014

Many years ago, the Tour de France passed through southern England. It passed through Havant very close to where Mrs. Grumble worked. Beforehand, the road was repaired and staging erected where paying spectators could view the race. On the day, a couple of escort and police cars passed through, followed by the cyclists and a few support vehicles. It was all over in 5 mins. leaving the spectators wondering why they bothered to come.

As a spectator sport, cycling must rank alongside watching paint drying.

Can't disagree with that. Definitely a TV sport.

Sitha!!!

Yes I understand what you are saying but you have to know where the repeat roads and streets are. When I saw the Olympic Road Cycling Race in July, we stood on Box Hill Surrey, so that we could see them go past 9 times.
In Yorkshire they will be doing a time trail as well as going to Scarborough. We will be watching them set off in Leeds then chasing them to Scarborough to see them arrive. Its just as exciting as storm chasing if you like cycling and the personalities on the bikes. Been a cycling fan since a kid as both my Brothers were in the Leeds Clarion cycle club. My eldest Brother also did time trails with Tommy Simpson and beat him once.
Hence my enthusiam as well as the fact I am a Tyke and you cant keep us down
