Re: Income

Did anyone see that programme telling today's young people that, to get a living Pension, just how much they needed to save and for how long?

I only caught the end of it but wasn't it something like £250 per month - for 40 years?

The looks on the faces said it all to me. stevmk2

The superannuation companies vastly exaggerate how much you need because the more you put in the more their income.

In practice I live on a lot less than they claim I need and I can't spend the amount I get even with a couple of long overseas holidays as well as domestic holidays. As we have discussed elsewhere my savings are ridiculous for someone retired. I can't even give it to my kids until my demise (Australia has no death duties).

Don't believe them.

Could you imagine someone saying that to you back in the swinging sixties?, the work was plentiful then and you could walk from one job to the other. £250 in 1960 is equal to £4,500 today, my wages in 1964 was about £10 per week, no use at maths but it would have been a fair whack out of my wages, glad now I had a great time on me few bob.

It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of frightened youngsters started 'Saving up to die' as my father used to call expensive life insurance. I wouldn't like to be a youngster today, we didn't leave them a better world in my opinion, greed seen to that.
