Thy will be done?

Just watching the story about the judge who awarded an estranged daughter money from her mother's will despite the mother wishing it all to go to animal charities. The daughter eloped with the man she loved and the mother cut off all ties with her years before. The charities spent tens of thousands of pounds fighting the case.
I think the judge was right! What do you think?

Re: Thy will be done?

I have two estranged daughters, if they get so much as a paper clip out of the estate I will send a great plague.

I think the mother was a tad on the vindictive side. The daughter was not well off and can now afford to buy her rented home. I believe each case should be judged on its merit. You could argue that the taxpayer is better off as the daughter may be on benefits. The charities would have been better off negotiating with her in the beginning as they have lost money fighting this.

I agree with you
Mothers can be vindictive and charities too greedy

Wills are not about being fair though they about people leaving their money as they see fit and unless they are found to be mentally unfit should not see their wills over turned.

I know someone who is trying to leave possibly over a million to N. Korea. Fortunately the solicitor is resistant!

Well if he is mentally OK I would say his money to do what he wishes with it. Solicitors can advice luckily they cannot insist so hopefully he will get his way.

Good for the judge made the right decision. A bit of common sense and compassion make for a good combination.
