2 years between bowel screening WHY?

The health board refuses to send me a poo kit yearly. Does anyone know why I have to wait 2 years between screening? Also, has anyone used an over the counter kit that they would recommend? Thanks.

Skyeblue, I would imagine its to do with resources.
In some ways we are lucky to live in a country where we get free screening, but I doubt there are the funds and resources to do it more frequently at the moment.
If you have something worrying you, I would say go to your GP NOW, don't wait for the next screening.

Its the same every where I think.

Every 2 years, and its right what Mups says we are so lucky to be able to have the screening.

Couldn't believe this thread when I saw it Only today I went in for a colonoscopy.

I would agree with Mups. If something is worrying you, you should go to your GP now.

If you don't have a problem but want the check anyway - I'm sure you can buy these kits.
I bought a cholesterol testing kit once and it was pretty accurate..

IMO attempting self diagnosis is very dangerous. If you've got any concerns, see the doc.

I think the bowel screening here is every 3 years from age 55.

Up here in Aberdeenshire I used to get kits sent every 2 years but when you reach 74 you have got to request them.

Hello Dawn I would certainly avoid over the counter tests. As the other members say if you have any concerns about your health contact your GP . I am sure a test can be arranged within the standard two year period.

Just had a look at the national organisation website and they recommend this kit http://www.pocl.co.uk/

Here is the link to the national programme https://www.beatingbowelcancer.org/
