The Weir, Shewsbury.

Hi

The salmon are running, river is up this morning and I saw two really big fish just below the weir.

Shrewsbury is unusual, not many places you can see salmon, otters and Kingfishers in the middle of town.

Swimmy, I bet that’s a lovely sight to see the salmon jumping. The way they travel a1000 or more miles from the Atlantic, then up the rivers to spawn is truly incredible.

It’s a shame that salmon can’t write books, they’d have a good story to tell!

Excellent!
We used to live not far from Pitlochry Dam which had/has a fish ladder with viewing windows where you watch the salmon. Looks like it has developed as a tourist centre.

That's funny, I was just going to mention the Pitlochry Dam and it's salmon ladder. Interesting watching the fish go back up.

I can imagine Swimmy putting his waders on, going down to the river and catching some salmon in his hands!

Seriously, though..... Are salmon protected against being fished at this time of year whilst they are spawning?

Re: The Weir, Shewsbury.

Whatever happens to the salmon when the river is in flood? Currently the River Wye is flooding in many areas between Builth Wells and Hereford - do the salmon just lie" doggo" on the bottom when this happens?
