Sorry I think it is definitely NOT worth repeating. There is no evidence anywhere that it has been used for this purpose. This sort of sensational nonsense just frightens people unnecessarily over a threat that doesn't exist.
That video is over two years old - hardly 'news' - and you can stop your phone recording the location easy enough. Just do it.
Personally I think it was a beat up on a slow news day, apart from anything else children are generally assaulted by people they know not by strangers (it happens but rarely).
If you are still worried about your photos there are plenty of programs that remove Geotags (that's what it is called so you can google it)

My son in law was told to disable the feature when he went to Afghanistan because the Taliban have used US photos to target their rockets using the GPS co ordinates in the photos (they love pictures of crew proudly standing in front of a row of parked planes).
...but used for molesting or abducting children? I think not (any evidence of it?)
