Some thoughts for Tessa.

Morning Tessa, you have recently expressed an interest in getting a scope to use with your camera.

Its a difficult way to take images and finding a combo that works is not that easy.

However another and much cheaper option is a superzoom bridge camera, many good ones out there now. And they have the option of being able to do close up work as well as distant subjects at the touch of a button.

No need to carry an assortment of heavy lenses around, so here a few examples of some.

This guy used the Canon SX 50 now superseded by the SX 60

The Nikon Coolpix P900 offers up to 2000 mm of zoom but cant shoot in RAW though still is impressive.

So plenty of lightweight good value for money kit available, able to shoot HD quality videos, image stabalised, many birders have ditched the DSLR`s in favour of thes type of cameras, shop around as prices vary greatly.

Food for thought.

Re: Some thoughts for Tessa.

Thanks Nom! That Tony Brixton guy has some lovely photos
At the moment I have a Fuji Finepix S, Bridge camera, although it does zoom a bit x26 I find I have difficulty keeping it steady.
I know you have a scope on a tripod that's what attracted me to it, but then I suppose there's the problem of following the subject if it moves.
Now, I'm wondering if a new bridge camera with a decent zoom and forcing myself to carry a stick to keep it steady would be the answer.
My BIL is very generous at Xmas he usually makes sure I have a good "treat", which often goes on home stuff, but this year I may be a bit selfish and indulge my hobby!
I'm always inspired by your photos Nom and Graham too, taking photos helps to keeps you moving and forget about everything else!

It would have to be good on macro too, I use that a lot.
Good all round probably best, with no fiddly bits to get wrong so good on auto too.
Perhaps I should just drag a photographer around with me and say, " Quick! Shoot that!"

TessA, I also have a SX 60 that I bought a few months ago. The pics that I posted on that other thread (What is it) were taken with it.
As you will see, it has a good zoom and macro.
What I like is it has wifi so I can transfer my pics to my iPad, So easy.

Thanks Emjay, something else to consider, I don't have an ipad but I presume it transfers to other devices too.
I do like editing, it's amazing how much you can enhance a photo!
One day I'll get to grips with Photoshop when I've worked out the language

Tessa a photographer i know that specialises in macro photography uses a pole to take his shots, just holds the camera against it and slide up and down, and leans in and out to take his hot. Certainly steadies things. have a look at his work.

Also these cameras are image stabalized , it helps, im in the same position.

Ive also used a shoulder pod, which can be good.
Thes fold out to form a mini tripod add a strap easy to carry and readily to hand.

Wow! Thanks Nom, I've got a sort of one leg tripod that screws into to the bottom of the camera which is telescopic, but I keep forgetting about it and you still have to hold it steady.
That shoulder thing is ideal!
I'm going to have a look on Amazon and eBay for one!

Re: Some thoughts for Tessa.

Thanks chaps for your help, I was going to join a camera club a while back to seek advice but, they seem a bit snobbish about equipment and obsessed with settings and lense size!
I just want to point and shoot using the cheapest, easiest methods and without any maths involved!
As soon as someone mentions iso or filters etc. I glaze over!
I have loads to think about (my phone just typed "snout"!) now and very excited!
Thanks again!

Yes im afraid the camera clubs are like that usually because of the men running them.

I di find one that was very relaxed and friendly, sadly taken over by a couple of blokes that turned it into a clone, and members deserted.

Modern cameras do a lot of the work anyway with presets, and digital is a cheap way to take photos, take loads and delete away, eventually you will find your own way.
