friends boarding kennel

just got off tghe phone to him and he has only 1 dog in which is being collected tomorrow. Staff laid off but the good news is he can get on with maintenance jobs that were put off earlier. He is going to support his staff for a time until the government payments get through, they have been with him
for many years.

His place is on the A5 and at the moment so little traffic he could even crawl across so he said.

Glad we sold up when we did or could have been in deep problems.

Of course that is unfortunate RS, but another way of looking at it is at least at boarding kennels it is only the human's pockets which are suffering, and not the animals. Animal rescue shelters are suffering more.

More people are dumping their animals, on top of the ones already in rescue.

Shelters are really struggling as they are getting low on food for the inmates due to deliveries not getting through.
They are also not getting new prospective owners going to look round for a pet.

I would think many smaller rescues are heading for disaster. Some are talking of having to close their doors to any more now, so how people 'dispose' of their unwanted pets then - I dread to think.

I did read a case last week of a dog rescued which had been locked in a luggage case and weighed down with bricks before being thrown in a lake.

I am sure many rescues would be grateful for any donations (food or otherwise) that we can spare at the mo.

The Animal Health Trust at Newmarket are closing too, and are not sure whether they will re-open.
They do so much good work there on household pets and equines.
They also offer no end of hereditary tests for different breeds, so I don't know what will happen without them.
All my Beddies have been DNA tested through them.

I wasn't aware that the situation was getting so bad Mups. I might look around for local rehoming centres to see if they can accept donations. Maybe the kennels which have it so good normally, could help out by homing some animals for free.

Can't see that happening, but it's a wonderful, kind idea.

The rescue centre where we got Max is closed to visitors but they have another issue. The warehouse where they keep stocks of dog food is on lockdown. People are sending in packages for the dogs in care there.

Yes, that is what I said Besoeker. These places are not getting their food supplies through.
I can only assume that more healthy animals will soon have to be put down. So sad.

Vets are closing too. Max had surgery on Monday this week. The place was closed from Tuesday on. They have another branch but much further away and that will remain open for emergencies only.

My vets are still open but very much restricted.
They posed some repeat meds to me which I received yesterday, so that was good.

They have stopped routine work, like vaccinations at the mo.
We also have to phone from the car when we arrive now, instead of just walking in. We are then escorted in one at a time. It is a good idea really, and stops lots of people all sitting in the waiting room together.

I hope Max is recovering well.

Thanks Mups. He is doing really well. If we keep an eye on him, we can take the cone of shame off.

Same thing here about being escorted in.
