BBC2 9pm Tonight - The BSE Crisis

At 9pm tonight, tune in and watch the Mad Cow Disease program and the scandal that was BSE.

The real story here is how, the EU with no scientific evidence, linked BSE to CJD in humans and as a result forced British farmers to slaughter and incinerate their cattle herds.

Not only the EU ban our beef products, they also banned the derivatives such as milk, cheese, leather goods, cremes etc and as a result screwed Britain for all its worth to favour Ireland and France's sales of beef products and destroy UK competitiveness in the marketplace. Even countries willing to still buy our beef products were prevented from doing so by the EU with new powers, given to themselves, by themselves, over riding our own decisions and capabilities.

The Prime Minister at the time was John Major (shock... horror !), who took the side of the EU and ordered the wholesale slaughter of our farmers livestocks (all cattle over 30 months old, for example), bankrupting them, making them lose their homes and farms and end generations of farming in the UK countryside.

Only recently (2017/2018) was the beef ban lifted (France) and our exports allowed, but surprise surprise, even though the EU ordered the slaughter and incineration of around 150,000 cattle, no compensation was offered from the EU funds (even though we have been paying to subsidise French farmers for decades) - instead it was paid for by the UK tax payer, just like when our fishing fleet burned their boats to allow the Spanish fleet supremacy over our own territorial waters.

Let's see if the pro-remain, Euro campaigning, Best for Britain sponsoring, EU funded BBC tells the truth. If so, be prepared to get really, really angry.

The same happened with foot and mouth, twice, but that's a discussion for another day.

That would explain the `news` article on the Beeb's news web page this morning about BSE - a blatant advert if ever I saw one.

The story of Britain’s biggest ever food scandal. Since 1996, almost 200 people have died from vCJD, whilst the cattle disease BSE has been responsible for the death of over four million cows. It has cost the NHS over a billion pounds and virtually destroyed the British beef industry in the 1990s. Beneath the statistics is a story of greed, corruption and catastrophic political misjudgement by the then Conservative government. With access to all of the politicians, scientists and families who have been defined by this epidemic, this film pieces together a forgotten chapter of our recent history.
What happened over the next seven years was a series of poor decisions by the then Conservative government and ministry of agriculture. They failed to stop cattle infected with BSE getting into the human food chain, and also failed to alert the public to the possible dangers posed by the disease. It was only in 1996 - when ten human victims of the human form of BSE – vCJD - had been identified that the government changed its approach. And by then it was far too late.

This film unpacks this history, and also follows what happened after 1996. The human form of BSE - called variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) - has killed almost 200 people. Despite over 20 years of scientific research, scientists are no closer to discovering a cure for it, or even a test to see who is carrying it. vCJD remains one of the great unsolved medical problems.*

Hi

BSE was linked to Variant CJD by our scientists, not by the EU.

France behaved despicably, we took them to the ECJ which found in our favour.

As usual, our Government did not insist on compensation from them.

As regards your statement about Fisheries.

We were the only EU Country not to include it's inshore fleet in the calculations.

Entirely our own fault.

Nothing has changed, we did not claim compensation from or fine the German Car makers about the diesel mission Scandal.

Our Politicians simply do not look after us.

You are quite right in your statement about france. So beside a court you need something or someone to enforce the rulings.

You can read all about this here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovi...encephalopathy

It seems that they did and you’re peddling alt right fake news again.

It seems that the UK food industry, Gummer and the Conservative Party have a lot to answer for.

Let's face it you wouldn't touch British beef or by products with a barge pole.

A shocking tale of livestock mismanagement and greed - so much so that imports into Australia from the UK are still restricted and, with the unfortunate side effect, that if you lived in the UK between 1980 and 1996 for a total (cumulative) time of 6 months or more then you are banned from making blood donations by the Red Cross.

All is not lost you can buy grass fed, hormone free Australian beef all over the world - which unfortunately also pushes the price up here

No scientific evidence that CJD is linked to cattle...

But the good old BBC missed out all the best bits ... how typical and there was me thinking they would tell all.

But you would think BSE only happened in the UK ... ?

Have a look
