Re: Dig Down into Immigrants and our/their Luck!

Thanks for all of the replies to this thread.

Some very interesting thoughts out there!

I am, however, still concerned to understand how we could change things, in the Country being left behind, to make it possible for a potential Emigrant to want to stay there, be safe, and have the access to education, medical help, employment, etc., in their own country.

Strange that the media never seem to go down that path, neither do the Government.

But why bother to do anything other than keep them OUT?

That's the bottom line.

When you look at the escalating effort to "keep them out" in the UK, Europe, the USA, etc. you have to note that it is not working.

If anything, it's getting worse.

Forget the USA, different thing entirely and the democrats are helping the sods to enter the place.

In Europe where some states are concentrating on guarding their borders and so protecting their population it is working.

It can work and hardened borders will make expulsion of the illegals of all forms very much more straightforward plus by subcontracting internment to (preferably) some sub-Saharan grot hole in return for payment will help motivate those who don't want to go where they belong to then cooperate and get sent there.

But in the case of immigration a number of nations have stuck two fingers up and nothing has happened to them, so this all comes back to my view that we are too compliant with the EU when we could be just as intransigent as other nations.

We use them as an excuse for failure and as an excuse for policies that politicians here want to implement anyway.

The finger of blame towards the EU for immigration is merely to hide our own ineptitude with policing borders.
Amen to that Annie. Thing is, it's all far too late for our totally inept government and especially the EU, to take their fingers out of their ears and do something about it now. They pooh-poohed the Brits each and every time we asked for leeway with regard to dealing with the problem of unfettered immigration into this country. The EU considered us such a poodle that we would just do as we were told. - WRONG! They have realised far too late and to their folly, that the British are in fact Bulldogs, not Poodles.

I agree.

If Hungary, and others, can manage it, why can't we?
The matter is even more interesting bearing in mind that, unlike Hungary, we have a 'moat'.

The answer, of course, is that our leaders are not too bothered about keeping immigrants out. Certainly, some big businesses want more immigrants because they provide cheap labour.

The solution is easy, but depends upon those in authority wanting to do it. We should take advantage of the Channel.

Any illegal boats crossing beyond half-way across the Channel, that is into our waters, should certainly not be brought to this country for 'humanitarian reasons', but should be turned around and sent back to France. That would be equally 'humanitarian', except that they wouldn't receive such generous benefits there!

That, too, is another easy to impose solution. No benefits, no free housing or foot, no free healthcare, nothing. Of course, the hand-wringers would have a field day complaining, but that is something we should determine to ignore; they cause so much trouble for the rest of us, they should be given no credence.

Yes, it is perfectly possible, even easy, to prevent illegal immigration, but unfortunately our successive governments have chosen to ignore that option.
