Labour's plans to raid inheritance tax threshold

Just heard about this on LBC. A lifetime tax. This would basically be a raid on any assets and also mean any gifts given during the lifetime of the parent would be subject to tax.

Re: Labour's plans to raid inheritance tax threshold

Hi

It is disgusting.

It would mean that even in very cheap areas of the UK you could not leave your disabled kid a house.

The threshold of £125k is stupid.

It will lose them a lot of votes.

I expect my little bungalow is worth more than that judging by the prices around here. I don't own it though, many in this road do

Liquidating assets to pay for care in later life is absolutely the right thing to require of people, and with an improved NHS that requires people to pay part of the cost of non emergency treatment is also a good way forward.

However what is being floated breaks new ground.

It will probably gain many more than might be lost and re-enforce existing voting intentions.

Of all the things that the Corbynistra are stupid is not one of them. They are playing to their target electorate quite brilliantly.

The updated news today is that John McDonnell is thinking about it.

They are also floating the idea of bringing back CGT charges on the sale of the main residence. Not just second homes.
