Most assumed it was being restored by the national gallery, but it wasn't, it was being restored in Raynes Park south london.

How did i know? because I had to do some telephone work in the workshop in this back garden but was sworn to secrecy above the official secrets act

So the house owner who was a restorer led me to this very secure workshop in his back garden and when I went inside there was her slashed painting. Yes absolutely true. I asked if it was ok to touch and under his supervision I was allowed , what an honour .

So I asked him how hard it was to restore .

He said now he had the backing canvas on it wasn't too hard and he could ask the original painter what paint he used. He said the old masters were the hardest as they used mainly plant dies and he had to get the exact plants so he could do a colour and texture match

Working in conservation of Lions but perhaps that's not realistic, so...……….a wine taster oooooooooo yeah
