Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

Very educational and amusing Pug, I'm learning a lot from you, I think you have the whole universe sussed out and only release tantalising clues every now and then, and quite right too, why should you let anyone else take the credit away from you, keep 'em guessing.

Well,Spitfire that depends on a thing called 'Curved space'.
Coz if THAT'S right, you can look your plums right in the face.
Which in turn equals paradox for the whole human race.
We'll arrive at The Gates,in total disgrace!

Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

Old Santa has become a bore
I don’t want to see him anymore
In times gone by I did like him
now he’s just a passing whim.
Coca cola made him what he is today
But I preferred him the old fashioned way.
I used to hang my sock where it could be seen
now I just chuck ‘em in the washing machine.
So pack your bag Santa and off you go
and you know where you can stick your Ho Ho Ho.

I saw mummy kissing SANTA CLAUSE
underneath the mistletoe last night

I don't like it & the reason's because
Lying to kids, just is wrong ,not right.

thanks for Southern Comfort nurse Gillian.

Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

oh my so many comments digest and ponder:

when a large oak falls to the ground in the forest and no one is around does it make a sound at all?

santa claus - I did prefer Claude Jeremiah Greengrasses version of him

I used to be able to look down and see my balls quite easily but now I have to put blind!

my wife tells me that when I am 'sound' asleep that I snore quite loudly and I sometimes stop breathing for a while 'cheyne stokeing' does that mean that I become deaf when asleep?

Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

Gumbud-the answer to the tree question is 'yes'.
Only in a total vacuum would no sound be emitted/received.
[no air or water to transmit the pressure waves,y'see]

Damnit,I'm far too interested in science.
In things I've read, seen or heard.
I just can't help it-I find it fascinating.

....I think I just might be a 'nerd'...

Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

not sure if I agree - I understand that pressure waves are emitted and transmitted but doesn't the human ear drum have to change this into 'sound'? and secondly if we placed a tape-recorder in the forest could this pick up the waves tranfered into sound?

no no can't agree on second time around - if the tree falls in the forest and there are no human ear drums or tape recorders - yes waves of energy will trave maybe but they will not be recongized as 'sound'

oh so you're givin up after the tree?? tish tosh and off with his nosh

oh dear my ears are getting very sore
cos someone's banging on the floor
I want to live inside a vacuum
cos spirits don't breathe

Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

Ah,but hang on a mo,gumbud;

the 'Fire-bellied' toad doesn't HAVE ears...it 'hears' through it's lungs!
Plus, newts, salamanders and turtles...none of them have ears.
Nor,I believe,do snakes.
But ALL of them would react to the sound of a tree crashing down!

See,your ears are for external use.
You have earlobes-unlike the average goose.
Plus,sound-recorders rely on air distortion,
Of which most sounds generate a goodly portion.
But by definition a vacuum is distortion-free.
...so you're not going to hear that tree...

Re: Leisurely Scribbles part 2

the simple question WAS - "does a tree crashing with no human around make a 'sound' "- you have just stated it your self NO SOUND AS SUCH but a felt WAVE - waves are different from sounds and anyway what about the other questions - you moribund?
