Re: Delay Phase???

It is really ...delaying the inevitable, that is.

The idea is ... once you fail to contain it, slow it down ... so that the winter bugs are out of the way and presumably the NHS can cope better in the warmer weather with any upsurge in hospital admissions.

Out of all this advice that's hitting the media, from daft panic buying to the other extreme of 'laissez faire' and don't worry' or face masks work or they don't .... I think 'social distancing' sounds the most sensible course.

Go out less. Avoid groups of people, especially indoors.
If you don't need to go somewhere, don't bother.

Yesterday on the bus I noticed, as it wasn't too full , that nearly everyone had sat so they had an empty row of seats between them. Coincidence or consciously keeping in their own space?

But what is the means o f actually slowing it down Morticia?
The people that have had contact can only be isolated?
Self isolation can never work given the mental state of people these
days?
People who actually have it, can only be given fluids and be kept
warm untill they recover or dont?
So how can anybody claim to be able to slow things down?
I am flummoxed??

Re: Delay Phase???

It shows up just how vulnerable we are doesn't it ...

The advice is confusing in itself ... self isolate if you've come back from Italy and start to feel unwell .. when ideally you should just self-isolate anyway if you've just come back from abroad ... anywhere abroad.

People could be forgiven for thinking the government, faced with economic downturn are just blustering their way through this with a 'wait and see' attitude. ( and their fingers crossed behind their backs).

It'll run it's course at it's own pace no matter what we do.
I don't blame anyone unfortunate enough to have a serious health concern if they just hole up and refuse to go out, at least until it seems to peak in the UK as it did in China.

Thats allways been all we can do Morticia, given the lack of beds in
the nhs! Chinese new cases seem to be on the downturn now, but
they appear to have been more vigorous than us so far!

No. Inductors. Resistors are linear.

Re: Delay Phase???

What I do find odd is that the government are saying that there could be 1 in 5 off work ( and presumably at home self isolating) when it hits its peak in the Uk.

Where do they get that horrendous figure from?
Even the Chinese with a population of nearly one and half billion have only had 80,000 cases. .. rather than 200-300 million.
