Paradise Riflebird

Paradise Riflebird (Ptiloris paradiseus) photographed within the Border Ranges National Park, NSW. This species is endemic to eastern Australia, where it occurs in the rainforests of Queensland and New South Wales.
Riflebirds are challenging subjects. Paradise displays are often carried out high up in the canopy away from camera - telephoto lens reach. Riflebirds expose their pectoral shield below the iridescent throat feathers called sequins.
Tracking their movements within the rainforest is difficult due to their unpredictable nature, the difficult terrain and large territory within their range.
My journey will continue next spring to try and capture his display
