MI6: say NO to May deal

So many threads difficult to know where to post, so here's yet another one...

A former head of MI6 and the ex-chief of defence staff have demanded that MPs vote down the PM's Brexit deal, arguing that it threatens national security.
They have taken the unprecedented step of writing to local Conservative Associations to put pressure on their MPs to reject the Withdrawal Agreement and instead cut ties completely with the EU.

In their letter the pair cite concerns over Theresa May's deal, which they claim will place control of aspects of our national security in foreign hands.

"The first duty of the state, above trade, is the security of its citizens",
the letter states.
"The Withdrawal Agreement abrogates this fundamental contract and would place control of aspects of our national security in foreign hands.
Please ensure that your MP votes against this bad agreement and supports a sovereign Brexit on WTO rules, without payment of ransom."

So how do we feel about that??

Re: MI6: say NO to May deal

I heard that too then I heard a more recent head saying that head was out of date and out of the loop and didn't understand the newest rules and ideas. I'm waiting for the current one to say they both have no idea what they are talking about and telling us it's ok or not. Seems depends who you trust most. Personally don't know either of them from a pink blancmange so I'm ignoring the lot of them.

Re: MI6: say NO to May deal

I'd like to think that was a genuine plea based on concerns for UK safety but it's more likely concern for their own jobs. Sounds like May's deal would partly outsource some security issues.

BrExit is shaking all the institutions up it seems. Not a bad thing.

Yep, they are all running around like headless chickens, Security Services apart, all others have had years of doing as they liked with no consequences, if anything ever went wrong it was always so easy to blame it on EU laws and rules at every opportunity.

It's about time all these lazy gits were all brought into line and took responsibility for the tax-funded fat salaries they are paid for doing practically nothing except take orders.

A clerk could do the work they have been doing for half their salary.

Didn't print this bit though did you???? to be expected I suppose;

Labour Stephen Doughty MP, a member of the Home Affairs Committee and supporter of the People's Vote campaign, said: "Sir Richard Dearlove is right that the deal is a bad one for our security, but his proposed solution of leaving the EU without any agreement at all would make things even worse.

"As members of the EU we have the European Arrest Warrant available to arrest and extradite terrorism and serious crime suspects, and we have full access to the key databases on crime suspects across Europe that are accessed thousands of times every day by British police forces.

"As soon as we leave the European Arrest Warrant will be weakened as Germany, at the very least, will be constitutionally bound to opt out of extraditions to Britain and we have no long-term guarantee of access to the security data we rely on.

"No one voted to weaken the fight against terrorism or serious crime and this is another reason we need a People's Vote and the option of keeping all our rights as full members of the EU."

Richard Dearlove was in charge of MI6 when we invaded Iraq looking for non-existent WMDs!!!!! enough said.

Hi

Saddam Hussein did have Chemical Weapons.

Hundreds and thousands of the things.

He used them against Iran and we said nothing.

Iran is still paying the price, many civilian casualties.

Then, all of a sudden he became our enemy.

Blair was correct, he did have weapons of Mass Destruction and he could have launched them within 20 minutes.

They had a maximum range of 25 miles.

Absolutely no threat to us at all.
