Re: Japan resumes commercial whaling

What can they do against the might of the Japanese whaling industry ( that has never really stopped killing whales completely)

That's true Muddy, since the ban came into force they've been killing up to 300 a year for "scientific research" ... yeh right....

putting aside the "research" argument for a moment the Japanese also consider that killing whales for human consumption is no different from the Aussies killing kangaroos ; or the Laplanders killing reindeer or the Inuits killing seals or the South Americans killing hamsters; or the British killing pheasants and wild ducks etc etc etc - we all have our favorites on the menu?

While I don't like the idea of hunting whales, we should allow that it is a cultural thing. We had a Japanese student stay for one year with us while attending the local high school. She was in tears at the thought of those cute little lambs going to the meat works.
Also Japan is not alone in this Iceland and Norway also hunt whales.

I hear that red squirrels are rather tasty in a pie and four and twenty black birds!

I dont believe in the cultural excuse for cruelty to animals .
A whale is a mammal just like us .
