Yes, Miriam Margolyes is in her element!

Plus, it's good to remember that it wasn't all that long ago that women were still going to back-street abortionists.
And men were rarely allowed to witness the birth of their children!

It's a lovely series. This new one is set in 1964. I didn't remember it being so dated. I was in my 20's then & I had a baby that was adopted.

One of my favourite series. But.. why does nobody ever age? Considering it all started before the war and the current series is set in the 60s.

Re: Call the midwife

I thought they were aging, they started as pretty young things with new ideas and they've (some of them) married, had children of their own etc, moving through life gradually as they should. Sister Monica has definitely aged quite a bit and her gradual decline is quite distressing to watch as she struggles to be independent but needing more help.

I suppose the problem these days is young people stay looking younger longer due to better diets and dare I say cosmetics. Many things that would have aged the skin no longer eaten or put on the skin.

It's nice to see CTM back but watching it always leaves me feeling kind of sad. So much in it is reminiscent of my childhood growing up in the 50's.

I know one of the actresses by sight, she is a local girl and attended as a day boarder at the school in which I worked. It's good to see her doing well with her acting career.

Plus, most have them would have been smokers in those days, which would have put lines on their faces.

Yes, even nurses would have been smokers back then.

Not the nuns, though, I don't suppose, although, who knows?

Ooh it's always interesting to see someone you know in things, a security guard I used to chat to at work seemed to specialise in playing corpses, every time I saw him he'd say watch out for me I'm in such and such, and we did, and he was, always dead always the one murdered and found.

Re: Call the midwife

I met a lot of ex colleagues on Saturday and was amazed at how young some of them looked. I’ve been gone from the Bank 15 years.
