MuseScore 2 music notation software

https://musescore.org/en

I have recently downloaded MuseScore in order to play some old midi files which were originally created, I think, using MusicMaker on Windows XP.

The software is free and, so far, has exceeded my expectations.

Has anyone else used this product?

Re: MuseScore 2 music notation software

Hi Omah - I'm very interested in this having previously used Noteworthy and Harmony Assistant. Is Musescore user friendly? Just one beat out in Noteworthy and the whole piece is wrecked! I guess Musescore doesn't have a synthesised voice?

I have previous experience from a similar package some years ago so I found MuseScore quite easy to get into.

I have written a few pieces for test purposes but have mostly imported MIDI files i created years ago - these have been mostly successful. MuseScore will also import universal MusicXML files and many others.

There is a comprehensive manual and a useful forum, too.

I think it wise to point out that the package is aimed at producing scores up to professional level - music playback is a secondary consideration. Having said that, I have found the playback facilities excellent for my (amateur) purposes.

MuseScore does have synthesised voices (for choral work), but, AFAIK, no actual speech generator.

It's well worth downloading and trying out a few test files .....

Re: MuseScore 2 music notation software

Thanks again - I'll do that. Some years ago I created some voices for use with harmony assistant's virtual singer and four-part harmony which were substantially better than the voices provided, so I wonder if I can import them into Muse?
