R.I.P Denis Norden

Denis Norden has died at the good old age of 96. Despite all of his early TV and radio work, I suppose he will alwas be best remembered for writing and presenting 'It'll be alright on the night'.

I did and My Word was one of my favourites shows. Some of the explanations for a word were hilarious.

I remember this one. Asked to explain the origin of 'you can't have your cake and eat it' Muir came up with a convoluted explanation involving Eskimos ending up 'you can't have your kayak and heat it'.

Dry witty stuff that you just don't get now

I liked him too, an amusing man who was very good with one liners.

Re: R.I.P Denis Norden

Another of our great comedy writers gone .

Norden and Muir, his co writer didn't like many present day writers of comedy/satire rely on the use of bad language, blatantly cruel jibes and sexual content to persuade audience into laughter, they used wit and the intelligent use of words.
