That's still the same as paying them though AB surely!

My understanding is that that Bank Holidays are statutory holidays that are paid along with the paid annual leave people in permanent work are entitled to. Even those on temporary contracts are entitled to annual and statutory leave pro rata. It doesn't really matter when holidays (BH's included) are taken but what is important is that people are paid for them because it is an entitlement which has been earned the same as your salary/wage.

Should we ban Bank Holidays or cancel them until the ecconomy is back to normal?

Lets face it they are not what they were intended and now we have as many as nine this year, not what the 1871 act designated.
NSW has 10 public holidays a year including Christmas, Easter (2) and ANZAC Day (we only have one bank holiday and that is for banks only). With the exception of those mentioned they all fall on a Monday so it is a long weekend off. For example the public holiday celebrating the birthday of the Queen of Australia was last Monday the 11th June (it was heart warming seeing the British celebrating our queen's birthday a week early at their own expense ).

If you work on a public holiday you get 2.5 times your normal pay and sometimes a day off as well (depends on your award). They do us well I think.

Annual leave and long service leave are now specified by federal law since the Howard government was ceded all the industrial and workplace relations laws by the states.

Rena, how has a holiday been earned? let alone being paid for it.
