Lord 'Jack' Ashley RIP
The Labour peer Lord 'Jack' Ashley, has died after a short fight against pneumonia, he was 89.
The Widnes born lad was the former Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent and was known mostly for his work as a Disabled rights campaigner.
In truth he was far more than that, an extraordinarily genuine man who worked tirelessly for equal rights for people with disabilities. He overcame the loss of his hearing after an operation and proved that it was possible to get discriminatory laws changed and in attitudes changed.
An awful lot of the Anti-discrimination legislation for people with disabilities would simply not have been enacted without his resolve and unerring support.
He also worked hard for the victims of the drug Thalidomide, bullying in the Army and domestic violence.
There are a great many people who are able to have better lives thanks to Jack Ashley.
Personal thanks alone, does not do it justice Jack but it is all the same very much appreciated, now take a well earned rest.
RIP
