Hillsborough

There may be a retrial of the match commander, David Duckenfield. Any "key lifesaving decisions" might have saved lives, delaying the start of the match being the obvious one.

Re: Hillsborough

I'm in agreement with what Boris Johnson said - before being made to apologise.

Re: Hillsborough

I doubt if anyone on that terrible day set out to kill lots of football fans. If anyone is to blame it's the fans that surged through the gates. Pointless continually going after a few people who were just trying to do their jobs, albeit getting it wrong.

Police should not have lied about mistakes they clearly made, then tried to cover up.

I agree. They should have told the truth something they always insist on others doing.

Re: Hillsborough

AFAIK the only falsehood concerned the opening of THAT gate that resulted in an out of control mob of football "supporters" being allowed access to where they had no right to go, done so in the hope that a violent confrontation would be avoided.

Based on the pure animalistic behaviour of the mob once inside the ground it did avoid a conflict that would have taken place, and no-one thought for a moment that the actions of the Liverpool mob would act as they did.

So the root cause of what resulted was not any actions or inactions by the police, it was the behaviour of a rabid mob of Liverpool football hooligans, no doubt many of whom were far from sober.
