I have it downloaded and watched it again last night …..

The Million Dollar Duck is a documentary that focuses on the strange and wonderful world of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest, the only juried, art competition run by the U.S. government. This film explores the eccentric nature of the contestants who enter each year for a chance at wildlife art stardom, while also reflecting upon the history and challenges facing the continued existence of this successful conservation program.

The Federal Duck Stamp, formally known as the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, is an adhesive stamp issued by the United States federal government that must be purchased prior to hunting for migratory waterfowl such as ducks and geese. It is also used to gain entrance to National Wildlife Refuges that normally charge for admission. It is widely seen as a collectable and a means to raise funds for wetland conservation, with 98% of the proceeds of each sale going to the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund.

President Herbert Hoover signed the Migratory Bird Conservation Act in 1929 to authorize the acquisition and preservation of wetlands as waterfowl habitat. The law, however, did not provide a permanent source of money to buy and preserve the wetlands. On March 16, 1934, Congress passed, and President Roosevelt signed, the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act, popularly known as the Duck Stamp Act.
The Federal Duck Stamp Contest was a minor subplot in the Coen Brothers’ superb 1996 film “Fargo.” Marge’s husband Norm Gunderson is upset that his mallard painting was beat out by the “Hautman’s blue-winged teal” in the contest. In real life, Robert, Jim and Joe Hautman are brothers who’ve won the contest 12 times between them.

There is no monetary prize for the contest winner but the million dollars (and more) can be made from merchandising.

The documentary has echoes of Christopher Guest's hugely enjoyable 2000 movie "Best in Show" - both are well worth seeking out on one of the many streaming services available.
