Re: Tories scrap NICs Increase.

National Insurance goes towards certain benefits, primarily a state pension for everyone......so all workers, whether self employed or not, should all contribute equally surely?

Re: Tories scrap NICs Increase.

See the argument was based on contributions from NI, direct employed against self employed, but, once again the point was missed, what if in recent times, someone was forced to go self employed, but the bulk of their NI contributions were accrued in direct employment, which must be the majority case, folks seem to assume, other have been self employed for eons.

Every company I've worked for started out as someone self employed, did well and expanded.

One of them is now one of the largest companies in the world employing circa 500,000 people.
Going the other way - a mate of mine took a huge loan on his house and started a restaurant which now employs 10 people.
If that restaurant failed, he would be in the shite and lost his house.

Sorry, the self employed should be given a bit of a break.
It's utterly stupid to do anything that discourages it.

I believe there are tax breaks and incentives to encourage people to start your own business, and the rewards can be enormous if you are successful, but we are talking about N.I. which goes to pay for everyones state pension.

...Including the lazy scroats who've never done a days work ever!

They make it harder not easier. Like when they introduced the new law that makes you pay 50% of your "estimated" tax liability in advance on the Jan tax return. You are paying tax on an amount that has been estimated and not even been earned at the time - hardly helpful.

Re: Tories scrap NICs Increase.

As well as boosting the economy and being unpaid VAT
collectors, the self employd usually do not get paid 'On the Nail'

Large Companies are notorious for being late with payments for work done
Also some custmers go Bankrupt and the Self employed are well out of pocket. The Banks are unsymapthtic and would rather sell your business 'Lock ,Stock and Barrell' for peanuts to recover a few pounds of overdraft.

They deserve all the help and support they can get.

Scrapping the increase is the right decision.

Maybe if they received the same benefits; Sick pay, Holiday pay, Paternity/Maternity leave.

Apparently this was only going to make 60p a week difference to most people, the fuss over it all 60p of it seems a little out of proportion
